SCIDS Breeder formulas was developed as a 10 times lower dosage option, to effectively eliminate PCC in immunocompromised rodents, and eliminate the effects on breeding due to hypothyroidism that was observed in animals receiving the standard higher SCIDS standard dosage. Trimethoprim and Sulfamethoxazole are efficaciously dosed in a highly palatable tablet with a high acceptance by rodents for ease of dosing a large number of rodents over a period of time while saving labor costs than more traditional dosing methods. Additionally, the diet can be fed as a prophylaxis to other immunocompromised rodent models.
An effective method to reduce the hazards of respiratory problems in immunocompromised mice
Mice: For best acceptance, introduce Bio-Serv’s placebo tablets 1-2 days prior to introduction of MD’s. Remove standard feed from food hopper. Tablets can be placed on cage floor level for immobilized animals or in feed hopper to replace standard diet. Feed diet ad libitum to provide both daily medication dosage and dietary requirements of mouse. On average a standard mouse will consume 1 tablet per day.
Rats: For best acceptance, introduce Bio-Serv’s placebo tablets 1-2 days prior introduction of MD’s. Provide one MD tablet per rat per day to provide daily medication dosage and nutritional supplementation to standard feed. Tablets can be placed cage floor level or in feeder dish. Rimadyl (Carprofen) is an effective anti-inflammatory drug used in a variety of species including rodents. Rimadyl MD’s are 5 gram size, bacon flavored tablets that meet both the nutritional and pain medication needs of rodents. The highly palatable tablets encourage appetite post-operatively promoting a more rapid recovery versus other conventional methods. They are an ideal pain-free alternative to stressful and laborious post-operative injections. Rimadyl MD’s can be customized to include other medications to deliver both medications easily and affordably.
For best acceptance, introduce Bio-Serv’s placebo or MD tablets 1-2 days prior to surgery. Place tablets at cage floor level for ease of access by the animal. Scored tablets allow flexibility in dosing. Feed 1/4 MD tablet to 1 full MD tablet per mouse per day to provide the daily medication dose and dietary supplement. Mouse standard feed should remain in feed hopper.
